Lovett Park Development

Mt. Airy CDC

Summary

A community-driven redesign that transformed a vacant lot into a vibrant public space—blending placemaking, stakeholder collaboration, and corridor revitalization.

My Role

As Director of Commercial Corridor Revitalization & Business Development at Mt. Airy CDC, I led the transformation of Lovett Park from concept through activation—facilitating a collaborative design process, aligning city, institutional, and community partners, and shaping a space that reflected the neighborhood’s identity and needs.

Approach

  • Facilitated community engagement sessions to inform design direction and programming

  • Partnered with local civic associations and friends organizations, the Free Library, Community Design Collaborative, landscape architects, and funders including The William Penn Foundation

  • Oversaw coordination between landscape architects, city agencies, and stakeholders

  • Integrated the park redesign into a broader corridor revitalization strategy

  • Led planning for early activations and events to build community awareness and momentum

  • Led crowd-sourced fundraising efforts for initial park furnishings

Outcomes

  • A previously underused space became an active community gathering hub

  • Activated a key node for connectivity and walkability on the corridor.

  • Demonstrated the value of locally informed, people-first public space design
